A dynamic space in the heart of ward 8 that can be dressed and modified for a variety looks and feels, the location features, open spaces, a shipping container converted bar, restrooms, and a kitchen and food trailer.

Washington, DC – Mayor Muriel Bowser and The DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) recognize SANDLOT ANACOSTIA as the May 2023 Location of the Month.

Located in the historic Poplar Point neighborhood of Anacostia, Sandlot Anacostia is a 25,000-square-foot outdoor arts and entertainment space that is the perfect backdrop for a variety of activities and events that could be captured for film, television, media production or still photography shoots.

“Locations like Sandlot Anacostia are a testament to Mayor Bowser’s investments to innovate our economic development. This dynamic location is the perfect example of an urban oasis, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of DC's Anacostia neighborhood. With its vibrant atmosphere, eclectic food and drink options, and stunning waterfront views, Sandlot Anacostia truly embodies the spirit of DC's diverse and dynamic culture. It's no wonder why it's been named the May location of the month - Sandlot Anacostia is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the best of DC!”, says Director LaToya Foster

Part of the Bridge District development in Poplar Point, Sandlot Anacostia is the first retailer to open and activate what is scheduled to become a diverse and dynamic work, live and play destination that will be a cultural, residential, and economic development centerpiece of historic Anacostia. Poplar Point is one of the last great urban waterfront redevelopment opportunities on the East Coast. Currently being utilized as a venue to stage concerts and live music events, social gatherings, and outdoor art exhibitions, Sandlot Anacostia is “film friendly” and the management team at the location is available to speak with production companies or individual filmmakers or photographers that might be interested in using the space.

“The team at Sandlot Anacostia is extremely excited and humbled to be honored and recognized as OCTFME’s Location of the Month,” said Ian Callender, co-owner of Sandlot Anacostia. “The goal of Sandlot Anacostia is to serve as a cultural beacon, a dynamic venue for community activations that enrich and amplify historic Anacostia, contributing to the area’s creative and economic growth through arts, entertainment, and culture. We look forward to more unique opportunities like this soon.”
