DC Film Office Launches Filmmaker of the Month Initiative

Friday, April 1, 2011

The District of Columbia Office of Motion Picture and Television Development is pleased to announce a new feature on its web site: Filmmaker of the Month.

Beginning the month of April, the DC Film Office will feature a District-based filmmaker who exemplifies the vast amount of talent and creativity based here in the nation’s capital. The Filmmaker of the Month initiative is part of its mission to elevate the national and international profile of the city’s most talented filmmakers.

“We have seen the great work of this group of gifted film professionals come through our office and we believe this type of creativity needs to be shared with the world,” stated Crystal Palmer, Director of the DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development. “It is our mission to provide District-based filmmakers the exposure they need to secure resources for their projects, which will in turn, allow them to produce high quality content that rivals their counterparts across the country.”

The District of Columbia has a diverse group of filmmakers who are producing films locally, as well as nationally and internationally. The purpose of this feature is to bring attention to this wide range of artistry that has so long been untapped and overlooked.

Ryan Richmond, director of the award winning film Money Matters, has been selected as the first DC Film Office Filmmaker of the Month for April. You can visit the April Filmmaker of the Month section to learn more about Ryan.
