(Washington, DC) – The award-winning DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) proudly recognizes seven-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Wilfred Rodríguez as the September 2026 Filmmaker of the Month in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Rodríguez’s work represents the cultural depth, creative excellence, and community-centered storytelling that enrich the District’s film and media landscape.
Originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico and now based in Washington, DC, Rodríguez has built a distinguished career across narrative film, commercial production, documentary work, and political media. He began his career producing commercials and promotional content for documentaries and news packages, and his recent achievements include co-directing and producing a series of commercials for Murray Osorio LLP in partnership with Univision WFDC—work that earned two 2026 Telly Awards.
“Wilfred Rodríguez represents the very best of DC’s creative spirit. His work is visually striking, narratively compelling, and deeply rooted in culture and community,” said OCTFME Director and Film Commissioner LaToya Foster. “During Hispanic Heritage Month, we proudly honor a filmmaker whose voice reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the District’s storytelling landscape. Wilfred’s dedication to authenticity and craft has not only earned national acclaim, but continues to strengthen the artistic fabric of Washington, DC.”
Rodríguez’s body of work includes Emmy Award-winning editorial contributions, documentary shorts, promotional content for St. Jude, and numerous commercial and broadcast productions created through Univision Washington, DC. His production company, Traveling Seagull Pictures, continues to expand its narrative and commercial footprint. His narrative portfolio includes the short films An Evil Mind (2016), Rock Creek (2019), and A Night in December (2021), as well as the music video PepperCola for Maryland-based band The FATO Company. In 2020, Rodríguez directed the Vote No campaign for Puerto Rico’s general election in collaboration with BUDPR, contributing to political media advocating for Puerto Rican independence.
Rodríguez’s current projects reflect his commitment to stories that explore identity, place, and community. He is developing several narrative films, including When We Were Young—an LGBTQ coming-of-age drama entering pre-production; Old Colchester Bridge—a feature inspired by the Fairfax County Bunny Man legend; and an untitled narrative project based on a true DC-area story, now in early research and development.

Wilfred holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production from the Art Institute of Washington, where he also received the Academic Excellence in Filmmaking Award.
