New Jersey-based Shadowstone Inc. expands its presence in Mid-Atlantic region

Shadowstone Inc., one of the premiere lighting companies for media and entertainment in the country, is opening a new facility in the District.  Serving as one of the largest rental companies for media, film and entertainment lighting on the East Coast, Shadowstone is working with the D.C. Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) to expand its presence in the mid-Atlantic region.

New Jersey-based Shadowstone Inc. first came to the DC/MD/VA region in June 2013 upon the acquisition of R & R lighting, a 30 year-old rental, sales and services supplier of lighting equipment in Silver Spring, Maryland. This operation will relocate to the new D.C. address where they will expand services to clients that include the White House, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the U.S. Senate.

“We are very excited about growing our business in the Mid-Atlantic region and moving into the District of Columbia,” stated Frank Marsico, owner and founder of Shadowstone Inc. “With the acquisition of R&R Lighting, and working with the D.C. MPTD, we will hit the ground running, increasing our involvement in the professional Media, Film, Television, and Entertainment markets.  We are a customer-first service operation and look forward to making the new lighting technologies available to our clients.”

Shadowstone pioneered LED lighting in the White House briefing room, updated multiple Senate Hearing Rooms, and provided custom lighting services to the Johnstown Stone Bridge for the City of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Other Shadowstone custom lighting projects for television include the AOL Studios in New York and Los Angeles, the Pittsburgh Steelers Studios, Big Ten studios in Chicago, ESPN studios, and Wells Fargo in Charlotte, NC.

In addition to providing custom lighting systems, Shadowstone also provides rental services for high quality lighting equipment for film and television. Shadowstone has worked with all major networks and provided equipment for such shows as Blacklist, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, Boardwalk Empire, as well as the 2014 World Cup games in Rio de Janeiro.  Movie credits include The Judge, Spiderman, Men in Black, Black Swan and the upcoming 2015 feature film Black Mass starring Johnny Depp.

“We are proud to have attracted such a prestigious lighting company to the nation’s capital,” stated MPTD Director Pierre Bagley. “Shadowstone’s presence here marks the beginning of an intensified effort to build the infrastructure that is needed to attract major players in the industry to film in the District. The best is yet to come.”

Shadowstone takes possession of its new building at 953 V Street, NE as of November 15, and will open for business in mid-December.
