Mayor Bowser Announces the Opening of Nominations for the 37th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards

Annual award celebration recognizes creative leaders, innovators, and changemakers in the fields of art, creative industries, performing arts, nightlife, and the humanities

(Washington, DC)  Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that nominations are now being accepted for the 37th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards. Nominations will be accepted until Wednesday, June 29, at 5 pm, and residents may visit dcmayorsartsawards.com to submit nominations.

“The Mayor’s Arts Awards are an important opportunity to highlight and celebrate the artists and makers who keep DC the capital of creativity,” said Mayor Bowser. “Our creative community represents the spirit and culture of our city, and I urge Washingtonians to nominate their favorite creatives.”

The 37th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards features 14 categories. All categories, with the exception of Distinguished Honor, will be chosen by the residents of the District across all eight wards, via online polling that allows Washingtonians to vote for their favorite creatives.

“The artists and creatives that make Washington, DC their home is unmatched,” said Dr. Angie M. Gates, Director of the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment. “It is so important to celebrate and recognize their achievements. Through Mayor Muriel Bowser Presents the Mayor’s Arts Awards, DC residents have the opportunity to take part in the nomination and voting process, to recognize and support the many incredibly talented performers, artists, creators, and creative visionaries throughout the District.”

DC residents can go to dcmayorsartsawards.com to nominate their favorite DC creatives in the Mayor’s Arts Awards categories, ‘Your voice, Your vote, You make a difference.’

  • Award for Excellence in Performing Arts
  • Award for Excellence in Media Arts
  • Award for Excellence in the Creative Industries
  • Award for Excellence in the Humanities
  • Larry Neal Writer’s Award
  • Award for Excellence in Arts Education
  • Award for Visionary Leadership
  • Emerging Creative Award 
  • Award for Excellence as a Community Arts Advocate
  • Award for Excellence in the Nightlife Economy
  • Award for Excellence in Youth Creativity
  • Award for Excellence in Fashion and Beauty Industries 

In addition, the Mayor’s Arts Award for Distinguished Honor, which is a merit award given to an individual, group, nonprofit organization, or private entity whose contributions to arts and culture in the District of Columbia have been substantial and consistent, spanning at least 20 years with local, regional, and national impact, will be unveiled the night of the show.

Nomination Round: Nominations can be submitted beginning Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 10 am& through, Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 5 pm at dcmayorsartsawards.com.

Voting Round: Public voting will take place from July 6, 2022, at 10 am through Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 5 pm at dcmayorsartsawards.com.
