(Washington, DC) – The District of Columbia Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) has named Dock 5 as the May 2026 Location of the Month, a rare blank canvas that productions can easily adapt for film, photography or large creative setups.
Offering more than 12,000 square feet of open warehouse space, Dock 5 provides an industrial backdrop with high ceilings and a wide, unobstructed floor plan – making it an ideal blank canvas for productions of all sizes. The space’s flexibility allows crews to build sets, design multiple scenes, and execute large format creative concepts with ease.
“Dock 5 reflects the kind of adaptable, production-ready space that continues to make Washington, DC an attractive destination for filmmakers,” said LaToya Foster, OCTFME Director and Film Commissioner. “From its scale and accessibility to its proximity to the creative energy of the Union Market District, it provides filmmakers with both the flexibility and authenticity needed to bring their stories to life.”
Dock 5 is located in the heart of Northeast Washington, DC’s thriving Union Market District — a vibrant streetscape of shopping, fine and casual dining, arts, entertainment and nightlife, it’s a discovery destination for visitors and locals alike. The venue’s connection to adjacent outdoor areas further enhances the production value, offering additional options for staging, natural light filming, and expanded production footprints.
Dock 5’s industrial character features original structural elements, clean sightlines, and ample space for lighting and equipment allows productions to fully customize the environment without competing design elements. The venue also supports efficient production logistics, including convenient load-in/load-out access and nearby exterior spaces suitable for additional filming or staging.
“Dock 5 has long been a place where people come together to celebrate food, culture, and creativity,” said Elizabeth Harnik, Senior Director of Events & Experiences. “We’re excited to extend that spirit to the film and photography community, and to support productions that want to capture the character of the Union Market District.”
