Creative spaces in Gallery Place/Chinatown provide versatile venues for multi-use filming facility

The DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development is pleased to honor The Loft at 600 F in Northwest Washington as the July 2015 Location of the Month.

The Loft at 600 F is located in the Chinatown/Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, DC in the historic Oriental Building Association Building No. 6. Originally built in 1910, it was designed by Albert Goehner in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. Until 2003, the building housed the oldest, continuous-operating savings and loan association in the District of Columbia and possibly the oldest-operating savings and loan association in the United States. The Oriental Building Association traces its origins to 1861 when four German businessmen, who were members of the Oriental Lodge, organized the association. The Oriental Lodge was a fraternal organization, most likely of the Freemasonry order.

The Loft at 600 F comprises three floors of open-design, versatile and light-filled spaces. The 3rd and 4th floors offer two unique layouts with plenty of looks available throughout 2,200 square feet of historic and modern architectural elements, hard wood floors, and exposed brick. The spaces are vivid and original with an industrial yet modern feel, creating a visual dialogue between the industrial elements, the repurposed building materials, and the comfortable furniture additions.

The venue is a perfect space for interviews as well as B-roll footage capture, and has been featured recently in documentaries and news footage by NBC, CNN, PBS, Netflix, as well as All State/National Journal, and speech presentation shoots for GenOpp. In-house furniture and antique decor elements come standard with the rental. Audio/visual equipment is also available. The space is available for shoots 24 hours a day.

In 2011, the DC Film Office launched the Location of the Month to bring attention to the wide range of cinematically compelling locations that are available to film and television productions. Former Location of the Month recipients include the Angelika Pop-Up at Union Market in Northeast, the National Museum of the US Navy in Southeast, and the Mansion on O Street in Northwest.
