Hillcrest Community in Southeast is honored as the May One City Location of the Month. Ward Seven Neighborhood serves as an ideal filming location for residential shots.
The DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development is pleased to honor the Hillcrest community in Ward Seven as the One City Location of the Month for May. Hillcrest, once known as “the suburbs” of the District of Columbia, is a community of rolling hills, manicured lawns, garden-styled condominiums, and red brick colonials and ramblers that provides a diverse number of residential landscape shots for film productions in the city.
Overlooking the Capitol on the northwest and Oxon Run Valley, Maryland, on the southeast, the drives and scenery of Hillcrest are a source of pleasure to motorists and community members, and it is often referred to as the best-kept secret of Washington. The surroundings are becoming more attractive each year with the well-kept lawns and gardens, along with the natural beauty of the oaks, maples and dogwoods, which flourish in the nation’s capital.
Hillcrest is conveniently located only three miles from the Capitol and has an altitude of approximately 300 feet above sea level, higher than most of Washington. The pure air assured by this altitude, in combination with numerous mature trees, parks, green spaces, and unusually large lots, make these neighborhoods a comfortable environment, particularly during the hot summer months.
The Hillcrest neighborhood is full of civic-minded and neighborly residents who believe they are fortunate to be part of a strong D.C. neighborhood. Hillcrest is home to District of Columbia Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Council of the District of Columbia Chair Kwame Brown.
In March, the DC Film Office launched its One City Location of the Month to bring attention to the wide range of varied, cinematically compelling locations that are available to film and television productions. Hillcrest is the first neighborhood or community to be honored with this distinction. Former One City Location of the Month recipients this year include Ben’s Chili Bowl in Northwest Washington and Arena Stage in Southwest Washington.
