OCTFME RECOGNIZES JABARI JEFFERSON AS THE SEPTEMBER 2025 FILMMAKER OF THE MONTH

Wednesday, September 24, 2025
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The District of Columbia Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) is proud to recognize Jabari Jefferson, founder of Mass Comm Guru Productions, LLC, as its September 2025 Filmmaker of the Month. A Washington, D.C.–based filmmaker, Jefferson has built a dynamic career that reflects his commitment to inclusion, authenticity, and innovation across commercial, corporate, nonprofit, and narrative storytelling.

Since launching his full-service production company in 2018, Jefferson has become a leading creative force in the DMV, working with major organizations, non-profits, and cultural institutions. His portfolio spans music videos, corporate campaigns, web shows, and narrative films, with projects that amplify underrepresented voices and showcase the richness of D.C.’s creative community.

In 2024, Jefferson’s cinematography earned him a Capital Emmy Award for Water’s Edge: Black Watermen of the Chesapeake (PBS). Most recently, he served as 1st Assistant Camera for Becoming Thurgood (PBS, 2025). His narrative work includes serving as Executive Producer and Director of Photography for Metro Ties, a romantic comedy series celebrating life and love in the DMV, which premiered September 11, 2025, at Metrobar.

Currently, Jefferson is developing Last Laugh, a psychological thriller, and Welcome to Chocolate City, an interactive TV drama set to premiere October 16, 2025, at Eaton Hotel DC as part of his community series Let’s Talk Shop

“Being recognized by OCTFME has been a dream of mine since I began filmmaking full time after graduating college in 2018. It feels like a true stamp of approval from the District and empowers me to keep growing in my artistry. I’m grateful for the recognition, but this is only the beginning. I also hope it opens doors to connect with like-minded collaborators working to build filmmaking success here in D.C.,” said Jefferson.

“Jabari Jefferson is a shining example of the creative brilliance coming out of Washington, D.C.,” said OCTFME Director and D.C. Film Commissioner LaToya Foster praised Jefferson’s artistry and contributions. “His award-winning work captures stories with depth and authenticity, while his commitment to mentoring and building platforms for local filmmakers strengthens our creative ecosystem. OCTFME is proud to honor him as our Filmmaker of the Month.”

Jefferson is a summa cum laude graduate of Delaware State University and an alum of Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Phelps ACE High School. His early experiences, including international study in China and internships with TEGNA and WUSA9, prepared him to build a career that bridges artistry, entrepreneurship, and community impact.

Through Mass Comm Guru Productions, Jefferson continues to produce work that resonates both locally and nationally. His collaborations include Children’s National Hospital, Howard University Athletics, Eaton Hotel DC, LED Studios, and numerous independent creatives across the DMV.
