(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The District of Columbia Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) is proud to recognize Loretta Edwards Wilson, Founder and CEO of A Bold Move Media, as the July 2025 Filmmaker of the Month.
With nearly three decades of television and film experience, Loretta has built an impressive career shaping content that centers authentic stories, particularly those BIPOC women. From spearheading content acquisition and development at Paramount Global’s BET Networks to scheduling content for Urban One’s TV One and Cleo TV, she has played a pivotal role in expanding diverse narratives on screen. Her producing credits include projects with MTV, Comedy Central, Disney, and Sony Pictures, as well as award-winning initiatives like BET’s Rap It Up campaign, which earned a national Emmy Award.
Most recently, the University of Virginia and American University alumna has produced feature films such as ‘For What It’s Worth,’ ‘The Final Say,’ ‘My Valentine Crush,’ and ‘My Valentine Wedding’ for BET Networks, with ‘For What It’s Worth’ filmed in iconic Washington, DC locations including the Trinidad neighborhood, downtown’s historic Metropolitan AME Church, and the Thurgood Marshall Center for Service and Heritage. The film was screened at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library and Howard University. Watch the trailer for ‘For What It’s Worth’ here.
“Being named as one of OCTFME’s Filmmaker of the Month is more than an honor. It’s a reminder that the stories I tell matter. It’s fuel to keep creating boldly, authentically, and with purpose,” said Loretta Edwards Wilson.
As part of July’s National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Loretta recently announced a new animated short film in development, ‘The Ones We Carry,’ focused on mental health awareness. The project is based on the life of DMV native Candace Washington, a mother, psychotherapist, and suicide attempt survivor. This work is part of her continuing mission to bring underrepresented stories to the forefront through A Bold Move Media.
“Loretta Edwards Wilson exemplifies the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and uplift,” said LaToya Foster, Director of OCTFME and DC Film Commissioner. “Her commitment to showcasing diverse voices and creating meaningful content aligns with our mission to amplify DC’s creative community and to champion filmmakers who reflect the vibrancy of our city.”
