Washington, D.C. – The Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) proudly presents Monique as the outstanding Filmmaker of the Month for July 2024! Monique's astounding journey into the world of television and film production commenced at the tender age of 15 when she secured a summer job with the valuable support of the District of Columbia government. From then on, she delved deeply into every facet of production, mastering management, casting, post-production, and training. Her remarkable body of work spans across commercial, blockbuster, non-profit, and independent productions in vibrant locales such as Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and New York.
“Monique's work embodies her passion for storytelling and her commitment to creating impactful and thought-provoking content. Her journey is not just one of personal success but also an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers and storytellers across the globe,” says Director LaToya Foster.
In 2022, Monique made her mark as a director with the release of "Hello Forties," a captivating documentary exploring the "Aha Moments" that come with reaching one's forties. Screened at prestigious events like the Pan African Film Festival and the Pittsburgh Independent Film Festival, the documentary also earned acclaim at the Washington, DC screening, serving as a proud nod to Monique's roots in the capital. Furthermore, it received well-deserved recognition from the Documentary Spotlight Awards.
But Monique's passion for storytelling doesn't end there. She is currently crafting the "Hello" docuseries, an expansion of her first documentary, which will delve into the "Aha Moments" experienced by people of all ages. Additionally, Monique is the driving force behind MoMedia, a forward-thinking media production company committed to creating content that not only entertains but also educates and inspires positive change worldwide.
“As a native Washingtonian, OCTFME’s recognition for my contribution to the arts is exceedingly rewarding. I take pride in storytelling and look forward to continuing to build a body of work which bridges social & economic gaps,” says Monique.
Monique's impressive educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Norfolk State University and a Master's in Technology Management from Georgetown University. She also plays a key role as the Vice President of RizeUp Technology Staffing, where she spearheads the development of television and film production staffing.
