Feature Movie Argo Films in the District

Monday, November 21, 2011

A new Warner Bros. feature movie Argo filmed in the DC area this week. Argo, directed by and starring Academy Award® winner Ben Affleck, filmed in Virginia Wednesday and Saturday, and filmed in the District Saturday and Sunday in various areas around downtown and the State Department.

Based on true events, Argo chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis—the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. While the story is set primarily in the Middle East, part of it took place in Los Angeles, and Washington, DC so the filmmakers decided to film in those cities. The production recently returned from Istanbul, which doubles as Tehran.

Argo also stars Oscar® winner Alan Arkin (“Little Miss Sunshine”), John Goodman (“You Don’t Know Jack”), and Bryan Cranston (AMC TV’s Breaking Bad), who was also in town for filming this week.

The film, which is set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2012, is being produced by Academy Award® winner George Clooney (Syriana), Oscar® nominee Grant Heslov (Good Night, and Good Luck) and Affleck.
