DC Web Fest to showcase the best in online filmmaking

For the third year, the Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) will sponsor the DC Web and Digital Media Fest (DC Web Fest), which takes place this Saturday, May 2 at The Goethe-Institut in Washington, D.C.’s Chinatown. The DC Web Fest, sponsored by 20/20 Productions, will showcase the best in online filmmaking including the top web series ranging from comedy and drama to horror and soap opera. Along with the best online films, the festival also highlights new digital media, such as gaming and app development.

Founder of 20/20 Productions and the DC Web Fest, Otessa Ghadar was one of the earliest adopters of web media, putting her creative talents into her globally viral show, Orange Juice in Bishop’s Garden. The show started as her MFA thesis at Columbia University and has become one of the longest running Web series.

"I remember when I started there were only a handful of web series out there. It has been tremendously gratifying to see the industry grow and blossom. Being able to foster that growth through my festival has been a source of great excitement and meaning," stated Otessa Ghadar.

Through compelling work, the mission of the festival is to entertain, educate and promote these new and innovative forms of modern art.

“The Office of Motion Picture and Television Development is thrilled to partner with the DC Web Fest for a third year to showcase the tremendous talent in the online filmmaking arena,” stated MPTD Director Angie M. Gates. “I applaud the DC Web Fest for providing a platform to feature and celebrate this incredibly innovative form of storytelling.”

The films shown in previous DC Web Fests have been featured in the Annual DC International Film Festival, making it a one-of-a-kind viewing experience for artists and admirers alike.

A festival after-party screening will feature dancing and refreshments. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.dcwebfest.co.
