St Elizabeths East Campus to host first outdoor film series East of the River

The District of Columbia Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) and community partners Analog Underground and the Ward 8 Arts & Culture Council are pleased to announce the GatewayDC Summer Film Series. The eight-week film showcase, which will launch June 25, will feature commercial and independent films across a variety of genres paired with special programming and community events that support each week’s theme. All events are free and open to the public.

Events will take place every Wednesday at 7 pm at the St. Elizabeths Gateway Pavilion, located at 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE. In addition to the film screenings, pre-screening programming and festivities will include live music, contests, special giveaways, performances, and special media demonstrations. There also will be informational booths set up to promote community non-profit and government programs and initiatives. Food trucks and other vendors will be available and attendees are welcome to bring their own food and beverages as well. Local film festival and outdoor screening event company, ReelPlan, will be coordinating the operations and logistics for the series.

The GatewayDC Summer Film Series will kick off June 25 with the Academy Award-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom for Black Music Month. The film, starring Darlene Love, Judith Hill, Lisa Fischer and Merry Clayton, shines a spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century.
