The District of Columbia Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) is pleased to honor St. Clair DuBois, experienced director, writer and executive producer, as the June 2014 Filmmaker of the Month. St. Clair DuBois, a native of the Anacostia neighborhood in the District, has 14 years of experience as a media maker and currently serves as creative director, executive producer, and founder of MultoMedia.
St. Clair began his career as a production assistant with Spike Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks while attending film school at Pratt Institute. His first experience on a film set was on Spike Lee’s 2002 feature 25th Hour. He would later work on other Spike projects She Hate Me, Sucker Free City, Jesus Children of America, and the critically acclaimed Inside Man.
In 2003, St. Clair began writing and producing commercial projects, working with brands that include Pepsi, Kmart, TNT, Coca-Cola, BET, MTV, UNCF, and Royal Caribbean. In 2009, after writing and producing international commercial projects for Coca-Cola through Sony Entertainment and Arcade Creative Group, St. Clair founded MultoMedia.
As creative director and executive producer of MultoMedia, St. Clair wrote, developed, directed and produced the Branded Entertainment series that includes The Engadget Show and Signature Sounds. Signature Sounds, an original video series and traveling music program, proved to be a success for MultoMedia, helping launch the career of independent rapper Macklemore and garnering more than 2 million viewers for AOL.
As of 2014, St. Clair has shifted his focus to bringing feature film and commercial development and production to the District. He currently resides in the Ward 8 neighborhood of Anacostia.
MPTD launched the Filmmaker of the Month initiative to feature a District-based filmmaker who exemplifies the vast amount of talent and creativity based here in the nation’s capital.
The Filmmaker of the Month initiative is part of MPTD’s mission to elevate the national and international profile of the city’s most talented filmmakers. Previous filmmakers honored include The Garden of Steven director Chris Keener; Park Triangle Productions founder Gemal Woods; Sankofa producer Shirikiana Aina; and Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker and founder of Durrin Productions, Inc. Ginny Durrin.
