DC-based 20/20 Productions convenes industry thought leaders for DC Web Fest

The DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) and 20/20 Productions, one of DC’s premier digital media companies, announced today the details of the 2nd Annual DC Web & Digital Media Festival(DC Web Fest). The DC Web Fest will convene industry thought leaders and innovators in the nation’s capital on September 19 and 20.

While the inaugural festival in 2014 focused solely on the web series platform, this year’s festival has expanded its agenda to include topics that will run the gamut of all forms of digital media, including robotics, gaming and interactive media. Festival events will include a summit, awarded screenings, and digitally-interactive art exhibits.

“In this increasingly digital world, technology is often accused of segmenting humans from reality,” said Otessa Ghadar, founder and president of 20/20 Productions, the creator and host of the festival. “But technology can expose the deeper sides of humanity. It can build connections and meaning; it can tell stories with a profound impact, and it can reach audiences across borders and seas. With DC Web Fest, we hope to illustrate these greater possibilities.”

On the evening of Sept. 19, 20/20 Productions will host a Red Carpet & Opening Night Party at The Loft at 600 F. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet featured guests, artists and scientists. They also will be able to view and interact with digital creations, such as robots, apps, art and more.

The following day, Sept. 20th, DC Web Fest will open with a series of lively panels and key speeches by some of the field’s leading experts. The summit will showcase three featured speakers: Alexander Reben, an artist and roboticist, who created BlabDroids; Justine Aitel, who is the head of cyber risk at the Dow Jones; and Gregg Deal, a performance artist who created The Last American Indian on Earth.

Additionally, three panels — “How to Tell a Story in The Digital Age: Multimedia Works & Their Effects”, “How to Manage Your Identity & Brand Online: Connecting in The Digital Age” and “How to Make a Viral Web Series on a Shoestring Budget: Film’s New Frontier” — will offer insight and an engaging exchange of ideas about the industry’s future. DC Web Fest will conclude with an awards ceremony to recognize web series and video game creators. Winners will have their creations screened for the enjoyment of all audience members.
