The Capitol Hill rooftop provides one of the best views of the nation’s capital

Washington, DC – The DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development is pleased to honor The Hall of States building in Northwest Washington as the September 2015 Location of the Month.

The Capitol View at 400, which sits atop the Hall of the States building, is Washington's newest and most distinctive rooftop venue featuring spectacular views of the US Capitol, The Washington Monument and Union Station.

Sitting 8-stories high, the Capitol Hill space is equipped with a unique retractable canopy, heating, and air conditioning, providing year round comfort. The building the rooftop sits upon is used as an office building comprising approximately 900,000 square feet (including an 800 parking space garage). There is a loading dock with access from D Street. Street parking is available with alternate loading from E Street.

The Capitol View Rooftop venue was built in 2013 to accommodate tenant and visitor functions. The main platform area is 51' x 91'. It has an enclosed area with a 35' x 60' retractable awning roof that can open by the push of a button. The enclosed room has 20-tons of air conditioning and heating that can provide comfort year-round. The roof platform also has an elevator lift for equipment and handicap visitors. There is a catering kitchen on the roof level with one convenience restroom. There is also an 8th floor Terrace -- just underneath the Capitol View Rooftop platform -- that can also be rented. It is 7200 square feet - 60' x 120'. The Hall of the States Building was built is 1975 and is owned by the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association.

The building tenants consist of approximately 50% state-related organizations (such as 35 state Governor's offices), 25% news broadcasters, and 25% federally-related private companies. Daily visitors range from news personalities, Senators, Congressmen, and Governor's to US Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Heads of State. The rooftop space is large enough to accommodate 470 people, and a lower terrace that can accommodate another 300 people.

In 2011, the DC Film Office launched the Location of the Month to bring attention to the wide range of cinematically compelling locations that are available to film and television productions. Former Location of the Month recipients include the Angelika Pop-Up at Union Market in Northeast, the National Museum of the US Navy in Southeast, and the Mansion on O St in Northwest.
