“Speak Out DC” is where young people get real about the issues, topics and challenges impacting their lives.
It is an informative, enlightening program, produced by the DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment (OCTFME) and hosted by the District of Columbia Youth Mayor. It was conceived to give voice to the concerns of those greatly affected by some of society’s most pressing issues.
With a rotating group of engaging, informed and conversant young adults, and, where appropriate, knowledgeable subject matter experts, “Speak Out DC” has tackled topics such as social media and its effect on mental health, environmental racism and the proliferation of gun violence. And an episode on suicide awareness was nominated for an Emmy award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter. The honor recognizes excellence in television programming and media content creation.
It is a talk show that always has something to say. It does not aim to solve every issue, but rather to provide a platform and a safe space for opinions to be shared and knowledge to be gained. With six episodes each season and a wide range of subjects to discuss, there is always a reason to “Speak Out DC”.
“Speak Out DC” airs on OCTFME’s cable channels DCN and DKN and on its global streaming network, DCE which can be found on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, iPhone and Android. Viewers can go to dcenetwork.com for more information and to download the free app.
