Award-winning film director, Aimee Dixon is a fourth-generation native of Washington, DC and graduate from the National Cathedral School for Girls, the Rhode Island School of Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Columbia University. Born into a home of politicians she chose the world of the arts starting her career in fashion eventually to become a filmmaker. Vivian, a surrealistic women-centric comedy, marked Aimee's award-winning first venture into writing and directing. It has screened in film festivals and showcases throughout North America and was one of six semi-finalists in the BETJ Best in Shorts National film competition. Her second short, Revolving Door, a high-concept art film, was completed in 2004.
A member of the Costume Designers' Guild as a costumer, Aimee has worked on such projects as BET's Arabesque series', which included Julie Dash's Incognito, After All, starring Holly Robinson Peete, and Rendezvous, starring Wood Harris. Her work as a costume designer can also be seen in All About You, featuring Debbie Allen, LisaRaye, and Vanessa Bell Calloway and Mind Games with veteran actor Geoffrey Lewis. Also, as assistant to Oscar-nominated costume designer, Ruth Carter, Aimee worked on John Singleton's Baby Boy, featuring the all-star cast of Mo'Nique, Ving Rhames, Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese.
A graduate of the renowned Writer's Boot Camp and a film scholar, Aimee presented her thesis on early African-American Female Filmmakers in Bologna, Italy at the Sixth International Women and Silent Screen conference and has contributed to the Women Pioneers project. Aimee recently left a seven-year stint as a museum educator and high school internship coordinator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, to pursue her Doctorate at George Mason University in Cultural Studies. Aimee's also served as a juror for the CINE Golden Eagle competition since 2005.
