Lawrence Green

Lawrence Green, director, producer, and photographer, was born and raised in Southeast, Washington DC. He graduated from Temple University’s Film and Media Arts and African American Studies programs where he served as the president of the Black Student Film Collective his senior year. After graduating from Temple University, he worked with the Service Employee International Union (SEIU) to direct a short documentary titled Beyond the Spin featuring Congressman Richard Gephardt, one of the nine Democratic presidential candidates in 2004.

After working with SEIU, Lawrence held video production and television programming positions at various companies including the Public Broadcasting Service, Prince Georges County Community College, Murray Hill Productions, and The Feedroom (now KIT Digital).

In 2010, Lawrence founded Time Traveling Media Inc. to produce thought provoking, visually stimulating, and empowering films and videos for a diverse audience. In 2010, Lawrence produced a short experimental narrative film titled My View + You? about how perceptions impact attitudes and behaviors in local communities. In 2011, Lawrence produced several videos for clients and documented live events in the Washington DC area including Carnival. Lawrence also created a short film about his family’s trip to South Africa titled Our Journey to South Africa. Both My View + You? and Our Journey to South Africa were screened in many locations in the Washington DC area including the Prince George's African American Museum & Cultural Center, the 1st  Annual Anacostia Film Festival, and the Community Harvest Festival in Columbia Heights.

In 2012, Lawrence Green was selected as a Federal City Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Emerging Artist where he showcased a preview version of Kinks, Locs, and Love to a packed house at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC. The preview version of Kinks, Locs, and Love had its international debut at St. Kitts and Nevis - The University of West Indies. Kinks, Locs, and Love, a feature length documentary currently in production, will capture the natural hair community primarily in the Washington, DC area by featuring women describing their natural hair journey, entrepreneurs catering to women with natural hair, and natural hair web enthusiasts. Lawrence was motivated to make Kinks after witnessing his wife transition from “relaxing” her hair to “going natural” and by the swell of support he has received from the natural hair community. Lawrence was also selected as a featured artist at the Sixth Annual East of the River Juried Exhibition at The Honfleur Gallery in Washington DC.

Currently, Lawrence Green is expanding his photography portfolio, creating videos for clients, writing his next short film titled The Edge, and visualizing his next feature length documentary project. Lawrence is a member of the International Documentary Association, DC Advocates for the Arts, and the Television, Internet, and Video Association of Washington, DC Inc.
