OCTFME Recognizes Trinity University's Payden Academic Center as Its January 2017 Location of the Month

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

The Payden Academic Center is a new education facility on the campus of Trinity Washington University in the Edgewood neighborhood of Ward 5. The facility features state-of-the-art science and nursing labs, light-filled classrooms and inviting study spaces. The Payden Academic Center is also Trinity’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building, and meets ADA Accessible Guidelines (ADAAG). The building was dedicated in June 2016 at a ceremony with Mayor Muriel Bowser in attendance.

The Payden Academic Center consists of four levels, with labs on one side and classrooms on the other side, designed to foster collaboration across the academic disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The facility offers media producers filming science or forensic subject matter a wide range of location options that include 8 science laboratories that specialize in the following disciplines: anatomy and physiology, general biology, physics, introductory and advanced chemistry, cellular/molecular and microbiology. Additionally, filmmakers seeking to capture true health care scenes can utilize one of the two nursing skills laboratories, two nursing simulation labs, a clinical nursing and counseling suite with six exam and interview rooms, or the health assessment lab.

Other potential location offerings in Trinity’s Payden Academic Center include 23 classrooms of varying sizes, including two large tiered classrooms and seminar rooms; faculty offices; conference rooms; study spaces; and a spacious, light-filled lobby. Each lab and classroom is a “smart room” with advanced technology features. The building’s exterior is a modern rendition of classic, academic architecture. Additionally, the wider Trinity Washington University campus features other potential locations for filming to be considered, including iconic academic buildings, an historic chapel and a modern athletic center with a basketball arena and pool. Founded in 1897, Trinity’s beautiful campus in northeast Washington, dotted with magnolias and statues of saints, offers a unique, picturesque tableau for creatives to use as a filming backdrop. Trinity is minutes from downtown and Capitol Hill, and offers a corporate housing unit perfect for temporary housing or production office space for visiting or large-scale productions. An on-site facility manager is available to answer any questions about the space, its features and any usage restrictions.
